I hate to say it, but 2016 slipped right through my fingers like sifted flour. I don’t think I have ever looked forward to the new year like I am looking forward to 2017.
My word for this new year is FOCUS.
Romans 13:11 “And do this, understanding the present time: The hour has already come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed.”
I’m going to be completely transparent and say that I get bored quickly and am ready to move on to the next best thing. Well, it turns out that the next best thing isn’t always the the best thing. The job that pays more isn’t always the better option. Taking that extra class to finish quicker isn’t always the best option.
Did I mention 2016 taught me a lot about myself and what I truly want?
Well it did!
I learned that taking the higher paying job just because the pay was better stole my FOCUS from the things that mattered.
I learned that adding that extra class to my already heavy load made me think I was FOCUSING on important things, that in the grand scheme of things weren’t important at all.
This year I vow to FOCUS on His kingdom things, the simple things, and the little things.
I want to FOCUS on loving my husband well.
I want to FOCUS on the little things the world tells me are insignificant, like making the worlds smallest dessert in my daughters easy bake oven (lets be honest that is more work for mom than anything). Having my son teach me about Pokemon because that is what he loves and spending hours putting my 3 year old to bed because she wants just one more flipping song.
I want to FOCUS on GOD. Not what God wants from me or what he is calling me to do I just want to FOCUS on HIM, Be with HIM, and LOVE HIM.
2016 beat the crap out of me and in the words of Queen B I’m ready to SLAY the giant that is 2017!
