Alright ya’ll, I am notorious for starting new years resolutions and then quitting before I even get up in the morning on January 2nd! So I try not to use the word resolution but goals or habits (whatever, it makes me feel better.)
First things first, every year my family along with are church community pick one word for the year that will be our fight song! Last year my word was Trust! I am just going to be plain honest and say I failed at growing in this area. I got bogged down with life, 3 kids, my job, and school. No excuse but that is what happened. So this year I’m starting fresh (yes, I realize everyone says that, so what.)
My word… INTENTIONAL!! Corinthians 10:31 “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it ALL for the glory of God.” I am tired of good intentions without action. I am raising my fist and shouting onward toward intentional family time, deeper friendships, healthier living, more intimate marriage, and a crazy love for my savior.
I started the New Year off reading Jen Hatmakers’ book For The Love. And OMG I wish they made miniature versions that I could carry in my pocket and pull out to reference her fantastic use of sarcasm! Seriously though, that book had me fist pumping the air every 2 seconds and interrupting my hubby to tell him all my new found wisdom! Here is my favorite quote from her book 🙂
“Theology is either true everywhere or it isn’t true anywhere. This helps untangle us from the American God Narrative and sets God free to be God instead of the My-God-in-a-Pocket I carried for so long. It lends restraint when declaring what God does or does no think, because sometimes my portrayal of God’s ways sounds suspiciously like the American Dream and I had better check myself. Because of the Haitian single mom. Maybe I should speak less for God.”
SO GOOD!! I think I read it out loud like 50 times.
So this year what are you doing? What are your goals? What steps are you taking to get there?
Let’s all raise our fists in the air and declare ONWARD! Lets do this!
