This is our last week of the marriage series and it is the most important one to me. So often today in our culture couples stand together at the altar declaring through sickness and in health only to find themselves standing before attorneys in divorce court down the road when marriage got tough. Marriage is meant to be more than just a contract on a piece a paper it is a covenant before God meant to be honored and fought for.
3 Some Pharisees came to (Jesus) to test him. They asked, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any and every reason?” 4 “Haven’t you read,” he replied, “that at the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female,’ 5 and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’? 6 So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate.” Matt 19:3-6
Not giving up means more than just saying we aren’t getting a divorce, it means that we are committed to fighting for each other, keeping God first, and staying pure. You marriage is as good as you decide it is going to be. One thing that Matt and I do that I think helps our marriage is to surround ourselves with friends/couples to do life with. Are all our marriages perfect, no but when we open up with others and be vulnerable together we allow God to work in us and through us.
My hope from doing this series on my blog is that it encourages you in your marriage to apply these principles and get the book. My prayer is that God will begin to work within your lives and marriages and make them better than they were.
