Happy Monday y’all! Why is it that the weekend goes by way too fast?
I know I share about fashion and beauty a lot on my blog but I also want this to be a space of encouragement and empowerment. With that said, I am starting a new Monday series sharing our story and journey to having a thriving and passionate marriage centered around Christ.
This series will be based off of the resources Matt and I use in our marriage as well as our real life stories, trials, and vulnerabilities. My prayer is that you can use these resources and apply them in your marriages.
Matt and I have been married 11 years almost 12 and have 3 kiddos. We got married when I was 18 and he was 28. We have lived in 3 different states together and have moved 7 times. We have been in ministry together all 11 years of our marriage, serving in both youth and children’s ministry. Currently my husband is the Campus Pastor our Life.Church Fort Worth location in Texas. We have been a part of Life.Church for 7 years and we are so thankful and blessed to be part of this church and what God is doing here. I am not a marriage expert or licensed counselor all I hope to do in this series is share our story and resources to help encourage you in your marriage.
When we first moved to Oklahoma to be part of Life.Church our pastor Craig Groeschel did a series titled “From This Day Forward.” He and his Wife, Amy, later wrote a book together based off this same series. This series was a game changer for us.
Every marriage is built on some sort of foundation. Whether or not that foundations is made to last is up to you. Before Matt and I got married we were serving God as single individuals and now that we are married we serve God together as a married couple moving in one direction for His purpose.
Our foundation is built on Seeking God.
“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness…” Matt 6:33
How do we do that?
We pray together every night before bed. It isn’t anything drawn out or extravagant. It is short, sweet and to the point.
I would like to say that we read our bible together everyday but we don’t. We each read our bible everyday individually and then we will tell one another something that stuck out to us. The YouVersion Bible App makes it super easy to read plans together (without actually being in the same room) and share our take aways as well.
We worship God together. It doesn’t always look the same. Sometimes I’m standing in the back with him before he goes on stage, other times it’s by myself until he can join me. But we always attend a service together.
Our marriage isn’t perfect and we aren’t perfect people. We mess up, we fight, we hurt each other etc. But at the end of the day our foundation is built on Christ. I want to encourage you to start small and simple. If doing those three things seems overwhelming now, then just start with a simple prayer together in the morning or evening.
